Exercise The Rest Of The Story

When it comes to weight loss, most people would agree that, exercise plays a crucial role in how fast or how quickly one loses weight.

Is exercise beneficial when one is not trying to lose weight?

To see just how valuable it is, one needs to know about the body’s lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is a network of ducts and nodes. These nodes are distributed throughout the body and are concentrated in the chest, arm pits, neck, and groin. The lymphatic system’s primary function is to carry toxins from the extremities to be removed.

Contractions of the heart cause the blood to circulate through the veins and arteries, but the lymphatic system does not have a pump. Contractions of the muscles, primarily those of the arms and legs, serves as a pump for the lymphatic fluid.

The lymph nodes also produce white blood cells which help control invading germs and viruses. The lymph ducts and nodes swell when overloaded with toxins, and becomes incapable of removing more toxic waste.

Exercise is one of the primary ways to remove toxins and prevent the immune system from becoming weakened and unprotected from germs and viruses. The result is sickness and other health issues.

If one wants to be healthy and disease free, exercise regularly, at least 3 or 4 times a week.

I recently read an article in a local hospital magazine publication regarding the growing concerns of health care officials about kids suffering from food allergies.

The article stated that 3 million kids and their parents suffer from food allergies and that this number might be growing. In the decade ending in 2007, there has been a 20 percent increase in children suffering from food allergies.

The experts seem to be baffled as to why food allergies in children have risen so dramatically in recent years.

The article also stated that 8 foods accounted for 90 percent of all food allergies.

• cow’s milk

• eggs

• peanuts

• tree nuts (e.g. walnuts, pecans, almonds, cashews)

• fish

• shell fish

• soybeans

• wheat

What I found most interesting about this article is, it stated that food allergies in children are highest in industrialized countries.

America, England, and Germany are three of the world’s leading industrialized countries. What do these countries have in common? They all have large processed food industries. Could processed food consumption be the answer?

America leads the world in processed foods. America also leads the world in junk and fast food production and consumption. America also has the distinction of having the sickest population of all the industrialized countries.

It seems to me that, if the experts wanted to know why so many people have food allergies, they would take a hard look at the type of foods these kids and their parents are eating on a daily basis.

The article concluded by stating that more research needs to be done; and hopefully there will be a drug that will cure food allergies in the future.

Is a drug really the answer? I think not! The cure for most of our ills is to stop eating fake chemical laden processed foods, and replace them with whole natural real foods.

Is Organic Food Healthier?

There is no scientific evidence or studies that show that organic food is healthier or more nutritious than non-organic food. If it’s not more nutritious then why buy it?

The primary reasons are listed below:

Organic food is produced using no pesticides, insecticides, or chemical fertilizers.

Even though it may not be more nutritious, it’s certainly safer. Pesticides, insecticides and chemical fertilizers are toxic to the human body and can cause sickness, mental disorders and even death in some cases.

Foods certified organic do not contain, preservatives, artificial flavorings, food additives, flavor enhancers, chemicals or colorants.

Food additives, preservatives and artificial flavorings are chemicals that the body treats as toxins. A diet heavy in chemical laden foods can overwhelm the liver and cause the body to store these toxins in fat cells. Individuals with weight problems may be over weight primarily because they are full of toxins.

Some organic foods, simply taste better.

If someone has eaten processed food for most of their life, organic food may not taste very good. Organic food is all natural and doesn’t contain excess sugar or any flavor enhancer’s, so it could take a while to appreciate the taste of real food.

Organic meat and poultry is produced from live stock that is raised without growth hormones, antibiotics, are uncaged and fed natural feed.

No one knows what the impact on human health is when eating meat and poultry that were injected with antibiotics and growth hormones. The impact may be very little or quite a lot. Until more is known, eating organic is the safer alternative.

There’s a downside to eating organic food and the primary one is, cost. Organic foods cost 30 to 50% more than non-organic food. For many this is a major downside. The poor and the elderly living on fixed or low incomes, may not be to afford to eat organic foods. Even for those who can afford the cost, adding 30 to 50% to their food budget may not be very desirable.

The other downside is appearance and spoilage. Organic food contains no preservatives and doesn’t keep very long. It also doesn’t have any waxes or colorants to make it look pretty. What you see, is what it is.

health and wellness:Good Fats – Bad Fats

All Fats Are Not Bad

If you are like most Americans you believe that fat is bad for you, especially saturated fat.

The truth is some fats are bad for us and some fats are actually very good for us.

Fat doesn’t necessarily cause disease, and in many cases it can actually aid in its prevention.

For more than 40 years, Americans have been told that they need to restrict saturated fat in their diets. And many of us switched to margarine from butter, and did what we could to restrict our fat consumption.

We have been constantly told that the reason for our health problems is that we still eat too much fat, especially saturated fat.

Ever since Americans started switching to a low fat diets to lose weight, the results are that nearly two-thirds of adult Americans are now classified as overweight and one-third are classified as obese.

More children are overweight now than ever before. Obviously something is wrong. We were given the wrong information and what we really need is the good fats in our diets that we are not getting.

The Real Bad Fats

I grew up being told that vegetable oils were the good oils and saturated fats were the bad ones. Now we are finding out that it is just the opposite.

It turns out that the bad guys are polyunsaturated oils, which carry toxic fatty acids (long chain fatty acids or LCT’s). These LCT’s tend to produce fat in the body.

Polyunsaturated oils are the vegetable oils we commonly see in the grocery store, such as soy, corn, cottonseed, canola and safflower.

When cooked they become rancid in a few hours, even in the refrigerator. This causes damage to our body at the cellular level, and shows up as problems like diabetes, cancer, hypothyroidism and heart disease.

And if that is not enough, these oils help us to get fat, lower our metabolic rate, decreases our thyroid’s ability to function properly and cause our skin to age quicker.

Trans-fat is the worst of the bad guys. These trans-fatty acids often appear on ingredient labels as hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oils.

Hydrogenation of vegetable oils turns them into artificial saturated fats such as margarine and vegetable shortening. The major benefits of hydrogenation is it prevents spoilage and because they are solid, they can be packaged and transported cheaper.

They are used in the processed food industry in baked goods like cookies, crackers, and most supermarket peanut butter to prolong the food’s shelf life.

These bad fats are used almost exclusively in many restaurants and fast foods outlets to fry foods. Eating out can be hazardous to you health if you eat any fried or deep fried foods.

When heated and eaten, they turn toxic in your system, because your body cannot process this kind of chemically made fat.

Trans-fats have been linked to heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Fats such as margarine and shortening should be totally avoided, as well as foods items that contain them.

The Good Fats

Coconut and Palm oil are medium-chain fatty acids (MCT’s) and they promote weight loss by increasing the body’s metabolism to create energy.

Coconut oil and Palm oil are nature’s richest source of MTC’s. When deciding to add coconut oil to your diet, it is recommended that you purchase virgin coconut oil (VCO), because it has not been chemically bleached and heat processed.

Olive oil is another good fat. It is a monounsaturated oil and unlike soy, corn, canola and the other bad fats it doesn’t turn rancid when exposed to air and contribute to diseases.

Even saturated fat from animals is not as bad as it once was thought to be, especially if it is from organically raised animals (free range and grass fed).

Organic butter has a very high conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) content, which helps us lose weight and gain muscle.

Nitrate free organic bacon is another healthy source of saturated fat that is beneficial to include in your diet. If you love bacon, organic nitrate free bacon is something you can eat regularly without incurring any health risks.

Non-organic meats may still be dangerous because of the way the animals are raised or fed. Most grocery store meats are filled with hormones, pesticides, medicines and unhealthy fat that gets transferred to us when we eat it.

Organic grass fed and free range meat and eggs avoid these problems, and give us a much healthier source of protein and saturated fat.

Organic saturated fats and oils are actually good for you and should be eaten daily. The body needs these fats for healthy functioning.

So, forget the guilt and fry up that range-fed chicken in some coconut oil and enjoy!

Can Malnutrition Be The Cause?

To survive and thrive in life there are three essential elements that all of us need.

We need pure air, pure water and pure food.

Our bodies can survive on less than pure air, less than pure water and less than

pure food but it cannot thrive.

All of us pretty much know when the air is not pure and most of us have switched from

tap water to filtered or bottled water. However, when it comes to food the overwhelming

majority of us have missed the boat.

If you ask any health care provider, what is the number one reason most

Americans get sick or contract so many diseases, you would get a variety of

answers.

One answer you would not get would be, malnutrition. How could we be

malnourished with so many people obese and over weight?

The answer is simple, we have become a nation of fast and processed food

junkies. We are surviving on chemical laden, nutritional depleted, artificial

flavored, artificial colored and sugar loaded artificial food.

We are overfed and under nourished, and lead the world in health disorders and

health care costs. To end this madness we need to take responsibility for our

health and replace the artificial impure foods with pure whole natural foods
